myRutgers Alerts Quick Start

The Alerts system allows myRutgers users to receive notifications for events from participating departments. Events could include unpaid parking tickets, overdue library materials, fees, financial and other records holds, etc.

When new alerts are posted to a user's account, the user can be notified in several ways; including via email, an alert message in page header or by automatically viewing the Alerts channel when logging into myRutgers. Users can mark new alerts as acknowledged and view a history of past alerts within the Alerts Channel.

After reading this guide you should understand how myRutgers Alerts works and how to modify your Alerts preferences. Please follow the step-by-step instructions below.

NOTE: Alerts on login and email notification of new alerts are enabled by default. These Alerts channel options are described below.


View and Acknowledge Alerts

Step 1

Check the message area in the header for presence of new or unacknowledged alerts. Click on the Alerts icon to view the Alerts channel.


Step 2

View alert details by clicking on the alert's title.

Step 3

Acknowledge the alert by clicking on the "Acknowledge Alert" button.



Enable Alerts on login

This preference maximizes the Alerts channel when logging into myRutgers if new alerts have been posted since you last logged in or if there are unacknowledged alerts remaining. This setting is enabled by default.

Step 1

When viewing the Alerts channel, click on the "Configure Preferences" link in the Alerts channel toolbar.

Step 2

In the Alerts Preferences screen, check "Display new alerts at login."

Step 3

Click on the "Save and Exit" button to save your preferences and return to the Alerts channel.



Enable Email Notification of New Alerts

This preference allows myRutgers to send email notices of new alerts being posted. To view alerts, you must first login to myRutgers and click on the Alerts icon. This setting is enabled by default.

Step 1

When viewing Alerts channel, click on the "Configure Preferences" link in the Alerts channel toolbar.

Step 2

In the Alert Preferences screen, check "Send an email message to the email address I have listed in the online People Database".

Step 3

Click on the "Save and Exit" button to save your preferences and to return to Alerts channel.
