1. Security
Users should always log out of their session due to the confidential personal data
available via myRutgers. If you forget to log out from myRutgers, you will be
automatically logged out after 1 hour of inactivity as a preventative measure. This is
a security feature that helps to prevent others from gaining access to your private
information. Remember: automatic timeout is NOT a substitute for logging out. The
only way to make sure your information is secure is to exit using the "Logout" link
and closing your browser after every session.

The iPad uses touch events instead of mouse events, and jQuery UI Drag-n-Drop currently only handles mouse events. Work is
being done to add support for touch events in a future release.
Only if needed, issues with layout can be resolved by reverting back to the default layout. Please note that all your layout
customization and channel preferences will be lost by this action. Go to 'More Options' in top right > Click 'Revert to default layout' >
Re-customize layout and re-configure channels as needed. If layout issues persist, let us know via myRutgers Feedback channel.
3. Channels
3.1 Profile
Rutgers students can find their Rutgers ID in Profile channel.
The Profile channel can be accessed directly using the shortcut "RU ID" link provided
on myRutgers homepage or by clicking on your name in the banner section after logging into myRutgers.
3.2 Alerts
Alerts on login and email notification of new alerts are enabled by default. You will be presented with the
"My Alerts" channel if you have any unacknowledged alerts upon logging into myRutgers. You can disable this
feature by changing the Alert Notification Preferences via "Configure Preferences" link in "My Alerts" channel.
This feature is not applicable when logging into myRutgers using those "Shortcuts" provided on myRutgers homepage.
3.3 My Calendars
Please refer to the User Guide for details about this channel.
3.4 Email
By default, you will be single signed on to your primary mail server based on your primary role and campus
location after logging into myRutgers, requiring that your email credentials are the same as your netId credentials:
- ScarletMail: All students, faculty/staff members
- RCI: News Brunswick faculty/staff members
- ANDROMEDA: Newark faculty/staff members
The email server can be configured by:
- Maximize your email channel

The email channel's preferences can be configured by:
- Maximize your email channel
- Click on "Configure Preferences" link
- Change your mail settings, such as: email signature, prefered sent folder, show new mail
at the top or at the end, etc...
- Click on "Save & Exit" button
You can customize your layout to have multiple email channels, each connected to a different
email server. Please refer to the User Guide for details on how to add a channel.
The most common cause for the email channel timeout or slow response is a large Inbox with
many or large email messages, and/or large folders structure. Cleaning up your mail account
will help speed up the login process. Please use the Webmail client to clean up if it was
impossible through myRutgers:
The Email channel also has a link to information on setting up spam filters, which will screen
your mail account whether you access it through myRutgers, Outlook, Webmail or any other client. Please
contact your campus help desk for assistance on this matter.
Please use the Webmail client's Webtools to setup forwarding addresses:
Before you can use your email account on iPhone/iPod, you need to add your account to Mail.
If you have a ScarletMail account, please refer to http://scarletmail.rutgers.edu/docs/iphone/.
Follow the steps below for all other email accounts:
- Tap Mail
- Select your account type. Tap Other from the list of mail account types.
- Enter your account information and tap Save. Mail configures most email accounts automatically. Otherwise, you will be prompted for any additional settings.
- Make sure that IMAP is selected.
- Your User Name is your NetID. ScarletMail User Name is your NetID appended with "@scarletmail.rutgers.edu". AESOP User Name may differ.
- Your Incoming and Outgoing Mail Servers are:
- RCI:
Incoming Server: email.rci.rutgers.edu
Outgoing Server: smtp.rutgers.edu
- CRAB:
Incoming Server: email.crab.rutgers.edu
Outgoing Server: smtp.rutgers.edu
- ANDROMEDA:
Incoming Server: andromeda.rutgers.edu
Outgoing Server: andromeda.rutgers.edu
- DRAGON:
Incoming Server: dragon.rutgers.edu
Outgoing Server: dragon.rutgers.edu
- AESOP:
Incoming Server: imap.aesop.rutgers.edu
Outgoing Server: mail.aesop.rutgers.edu
Once your account information is saved - you can start sending and receiving email.
You can configure additional accounts by tapping Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Add Account.
Possible reasons are:
- There is no email account configured. Please contact your campus help desk to setup an email account.
- Email credentials are not valid. If your email credentials are not the same as your NetID credentials, then enter username and
password in the section for alternate credentials in the Email channel. The alternate credentials section is not applicable for
ScarletMail accounts.
- A large Inbox with many or large email messages, and/or large folders structure. Please use the Webmail client
to clean up your email account.
IMAP is disabled by default in the ScarletMail settings. Sign in to ScarletMail and
follow detailed instructions to enable it.
